Honda Safety Tech Earns Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval
After poring over more than 1,500 new products, the scientists and engineers of the Good Housekeeping Research Institute have chosen Honda’s LaneWatch blind-spot display as the only automotive winner of a 2013 Very Innovative Product Award.
The unique LaneWatch feature adds another layer of peace of mind to Honda’s blind-spot warning system by specifically helping drivers locate objects in the blind spot on the passenger side of the vehicle. It works by leveraging a tiny camera mounted on the right-side exterior mirror of the vehicle that activates when drivers engage the right-side turn signal (or press a button located on the turn-signal stalk). When this happens, the camera sends a view of the right-hand blind-spot area to the eight-inch color display screen located on the dashboard.
Thanks to LaneWatch, drivers enjoy a field of view about four times wider than without the system, and also benefit from integrated reference lines to help judge distances.
“LaneWatch is an intuitive visibility technology that represents the sort of innovation that consumers have come to expect from Honda,” said Mike Accavitti, vice president of national marketing operations, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “Automotive products don’t often win Good Housekeeping’s VIP awards, and that makes it even sweeter to have LaneWatch listed among the best new consumer products of 2013.”
LaneWatch is currently available on two award-winning members of the Honda lineup: The all-new 2013 Honda Accord, which received the new, enhanced Top Safety Pick+ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and the refreshed 2013 Honda Crosstour, the same nameplate that won the Midsize Crossover/SUV segment in the most recent J.D. Power and Associates Vehicle Dependability Study.

Honda’s ECO Assist Honored as Top Green Car Technology
A key enabler of high fuel-economy marks throughout the Honda lineup—the automaker’s ECO Assist feature—has been named to the Top 10 Green Car Technology List for 2013. The annual recognition program is presented by the Green Car Journal and was created to honor the new technologies that are helping to create the next generation of environmentally friendly automobiles. Which is certainly the case for ECO Assist.
Available in many of the brand’s most popular and efficient models, ECO Assist actually provides drivers with two ways to squeeze the most mileage from their Hondas. First, the system uses instrument-panel graphics to “coach” operators into driving more efficiently; then, for enhanced fuel-economy performance, drivers also can engage an ECON button that retunes important vehicle systems for optimum efficiency.
“Honda’s ECO Assist system was selected as a Green Car Technology Award finalist for its innate ability to help drivers enhance their fuel efficiency,” said Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of the Green Car Journal. “In an era of increased demands on environmental performance from consumers and government alike, we wanted to highlight the innovative technologies like ECO Assist that make their incredible achievements possible.”
“Honda developed the driver guidance and driver feedback functions of ECO Assist to help drivers improve their fuel economy, and in turn, to also benefit our environment,” added Art St. Cyr, vice president of product planning and logistics at American Honda. “The visual nature of the technology is intended to help drivers improve their efficient driving skills by making it a more fun and rewarding experience.”

Honda Wins The Driving Engagement Award During The Chicago Auto Show Social Media Preview
The Chicago Automobile Trade Association (CATA), producer of the Chicago Auto Show, and Word of Mouth Marketing Association (WOMMA) presented American Honda Motor Co., Inc. with the first-ever "Driving Engagement" award for best social media campaign of 2012 during the Social Media Preview of the 2013 Chicago Auto Show.
"We are thrilled and proud that the latest edition in our Honda Loves You Back social media campaign has been recognized. We're so grateful for the love our customers express for their Honda vehicles," said Alicia Jones , manager of Social Media at American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "I think it's the simplicity of the campaign's intent – to say thank you and share the conversation with them – that makes it work."
WOMMA selected three automotive manufacturers as finalists for the Driving Engagement awards: Nissan and Dodge were the two runners-up. Nissan submitted its "2013 Nissan Pathfinder Presents: An Improv-tastic Road Trip" campaign; Dodge entered its "Inspired by You" campaign to promote the 2013 Dodge Dart.
"We are so impressed with the social business efforts from the auto industry over the last year. We saw major brands engaging with Pinterest, great use of video and humor as well partnerships to showcase artists and embrace fans," said Suzanne Fanning , president of WOMMA. "We are grateful to the Chicago Auto Show for allowing us to help recognize the best campaigns of the year, and we look forward to working with them in the future to further 'drive engagement.'"
The Chicago Auto Show strives to remain at the forefront of social media savvy auto shows.
"We're extremely happy with the outcome of this year's partnership with the Word of Mouth Marketing Association and hope to continue the Driving Engagement award presentation in future years," said Michael Ettleson , 2013 Chicago Auto Show chairman.

High-Value Hondas: Accord, CR-V Honored by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance
Honda’s ability to deliver high value to its customers helped lift sales by 24 percent last year alone, and now it’s also helped two of the automaker’s top products earn Best Value Awards from the money experts at Kiplinger’s Personal Finance. The Kiplinger’s crew analyzed vehicles based on factors including performance, price and safety, then named the Honda Accord to the Best New Models list and selected the Honda CR-V—a Best New Model when the current version was introduced in 2012—as a Best in Class choice.
“With the 2013 redesign, Accord keeps its essential ingredients—a solid driver-to-road connection, comfy interior and high resale values—and spices things up with new technology and a more modern exterior,” said Jessica Anderson, associate editor, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance. “Additionally, in an increasingly crowded segment, CR-V is the ideal others aspire to.”
Now in its ninth generation, the Accord was singled out for “a new look that’s been compared with the BMW 3-Series,” as well as its increased rear legroom and cargo space, combined with standard features like Pandora Internet radio, a rearview camera system and SMS text-messaging functionality.
The CR-V—also the best-selling crossover in America last year—was acclaimed for its similarly strong lineup of standard features as well as a versatile cabin in which an easy-to-use lever folds down the rear seats to enable more than 70 cubic feet of cargo room.
“The Accord and CR-V remain segment standouts for their efficiency, packaging, performance and value,” said Michael Accavitti, vice president of marketing operations, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “The strength of the Honda lineup is clearly resonating in the marketplace and we are proud to be recognized for offering true value to customers.”

Honda brings 2013 Civic Si to Chicago Auto Show in Forza Horizon
Forza Horizon came
out in October of last year. The game play was a departure from the
previous entries in the series in that it followed a narrative, rather
than just lining up races. We checked out the game in the fall, and found its open world to be a nice break from the rigid race structure of some of the simulators. Check out our full review here.
At the Chicago show, players can race virtually against Honda IndyCar driver Scott Dixon, and try to beat his fastest time in a 2013 Civic Si. The winner of the contest will get a chance to meet the Indy 500 winner and get a custom Civic Si-themed Xbox gaming console.
After the show, starting Feb. 15, Forza Horizon will launch a photo contest online with the Honda Civic Si. Players will have to shoot in-game screen captures of the car at various locales. The best one will be featured on Honda social-media channels and on the Honda website. Winners of the photo contest will also get an Xbox 360.
